Stora Malms kyrka is a striking medieval church standing beside road 52 towards Nyköping. It was the original parish church of the area later to become Katrineholm, predating the town itself, and remains a notable landmark in the Södermanland countryside.

The church was built in the 13th century, originally consisting of a nave and chancel. Later in the medieval period a porch and sacristy were added, and in the 18th century the building was extended with transepts, giving it its present cross-shaped plan. During this expansion, 17th-century wall paintings were covered over with limewash.

A restoration in 1909–1910, carried out under the direction of Sigurd Curman, partially uncovered and restored the earlier paintings, remodelled the nave and chancel, and introduced new pews. The result is a church interior that reflects several centuries of alteration rather than a single architectural period.

Outside stands a detached wooden bell tower dating from 1736, housing a great bell cast in 1501 — considerably older than the tower itself. The tower clock was made in 1766 by the clockmaker Per Larsson of Ändebol.

Among the church's furnishings is an altarpiece painted by Pehr Hörberg, a well-known Swedish church painter, while a separate altarpiece in the Ericsberg chancel is the work of Olle Hjortzberg. The pulpit was carved by Olof Malmström.

The church has had a succession of organs: an instrument built in 1749 by Jonas Gren and Petter Stråhle, donated by cavalry captain David Henrik Hildebrand; a replacement built in 1879 by Åkerman & Lund; and the current pneumatic organ, built in 1946 by Olof Hammarberg of Gothenburg, which reuses the façade of its 1879 predecessor.
