Härryda kyrka stands on a slope above the Mölndalsån valley, on the old road to Borås. A medieval stone church once stood here; after an attempted tower build failed, a new Classicist-style church was raised on the same foundations, completed in 1850.

The church has a nave with a three-sided chancel to the east and a tower with a lantern to the west. Its walls, whitewashed inside and out, are pierced by round-arched windows, with lunette windows above the south portal, and the interior is covered by a wooden barrel vault with a profiled cornice. Structures beneath the gallery, including a sacristy, were added in the mid-1950s, and later restoration work in the twentieth century adjusted the church's colour scheme, flooring and roof.

Despite the rebuilding, two notable furnishings survive from the earlier church: a Baroque altarpiece dated 1693 and a five-sided pulpit acquired in 1703, its basket decorated with figural arcades, twisted columns and carved figures of the Evangelists.

The font is thought to be the oldest object in the church, probably carved in soapstone in the late 13th century. Its four-lobed bowl, decorated with plant ornament within arcades, is of a type also found at nearby Landvetter church. A brass bowl matching the shape of the basin has been added in more recent times.

A painting of the Crucifixion and Resurrection, attributed to Gustaf Brusewitz, hangs on the north wall of the nave; sources differ on whether it dates from 1862 or 1892. Two bells hang in the tower, one of them cast in 1744.

The present organ was built in 1959 by Hammarbergs orgelbyggeri, incorporating some older pipework; it replaced an earlier instrument originally built in 1802 for Karl Johans kyrka in Gothenburg, whose facade is said to survive, mounted on a wall in the gallery vestibule.
