Åhls kyrka stands in the eastern part of Insjön in Dalarna, serving Åhls parish within the Diocese of Västerås. The present stone church dates from the 1760s, though the site's church history stretches back to the Middle Ages.

A simple medieval hall church of grey stone once stood here, with a nave, a straight-ended chancel, and a timber porch on the south side. A sacristy and tower were probably added later in the medieval period, and the sacristy was extended eastward in the 1680s. An inventory from 1628 records that the interior ceiling consisted of two brick vaults.

The medieval building was largely demolished to make way for the current church, constructed between 1761 and 1767 under master builder Pehr Schutzberg of Västerås. Only the nave's north wall, the west gable, and parts of the tower from the older structure were retained. The church's roof structure dates from the eighteenth century, and a 2014 survey of the roof timbers found a single carved board thought to survive from an earlier church on the site. The exterior has changed little since the building was completed, although a thorough restoration took place in 1966.

An intriguing episode from the parish's early history concerns its first vicar, Laurentius Erici Angermannus, who was accused in 1622 of burying a Traveller (referred to in older sources by a now-offensive term) at a time when this was strictly forbidden. The church reportedly received a payment for the burial, and the vicar and several parishioners involved were fined by the Diocese of Västerås, with the payment ordered to be forfeited to the cathedral.

Among the furnishings, the pulpit was made in the 1780s by Hans Mohson of Svärdsjö. The altarpiece, dating from 1827, takes the form of a classical temple gable with a cross at its centre; the joinery was carried out by churchwarden Johan Göransson, with decorative painting by Anders Richman of Falun. A notable survival from the older church is a late fifteenth-century altar cabinet, displayed against the south wall.

The church has several fonts of interest: a modern stone font from 1977, designed by Erik Sand of Strängnäs in a style inspired by medieval examples, stands in the chancel; the base of an older medieval font in Gotland limestone has been found beneath the church floor; and a copper font made around 1760 by coppersmith Lars Westman is kept in the sacristy. The gallery organ, built in 1967 by Nils Hammarberg of Gothenburg, incorporates some pipework from its predecessor instrument.
