Västrums kyrka stands on a low hill in Västervik Municipality, Kalmar County, part of the Church of Sweden's Gladhammar-Västrum parish. It replaced earlier chapels on the same site and has served the local community since around 1800.

The earliest known chapel on this site dated from the late 1400s or early 1500s, on ground now called Kapelludden. It was succeeded by a small timber chapel, built either in 1689 or 1693 depending on the source, measuring roughly ten metres by twenty. That chapel was demolished in 1798 once the present church was completed; only its sacristy survives, now forming the Cederflycht burial chapel.

The current building was designed by the architect Casper Seurling and constructed in 1797–1798, with consecration recorded as taking place on 20 July 1800 by Bishop Jacob Axelsson Lindblom. It is a single-nave hall church with whitewashed, smooth-rendered stone and masonry walls, a rectangular nave with a three-sided chancel to the east, a west tower with entrance, a further south doorway, and a sacristy on the north side beneath a metal-clad mansard roof.

Inside, wall and ceiling paintings dating from the 1730s are said to be well preserved, predating the present building and presumably carried over or recreated from the earlier chapel. The pulpit dates from the late eighteenth century, and the font, carved from Kolmården marble with a brass bowl and lid, was added in 1876.

Three church bells hang in the tower, all originally from the old chapel; the oldest is medieval. A smaller, unassuming bell hangs above the sacristy door — originally from the very first chapel on the site, it was rehung in its present position in 1952 during restoration work, and is noted locally for its history.

The organ was built in 1856 by Andreas Åbergh of Hjortsberga, with a case designed by Johan Adolf Hawerman; it was repaired by Åbergh himself in 1886 and by Åkerman & Lund in 1971, and a separate chancel organ was added in 1977.
