Sköldinge kyrka stands beside road 55/57 between Katrineholm and Flen in Södermanland, a little outside the village it serves. Dating originally from the 1100s and extended over subsequent centuries, it was named Sweden's Road Church of the Year in 1997.

The stone church began as a nave with a narrower chancel in the 1100s, with a sacristy added on the chancel's north side in the following century. During the 1300s the building was lengthened eastwards to its present size, and a straight-ended chancel replaced the earlier form. Towards the end of the 1400s the timber barrel vault of the ceiling was replaced with five brick vaults, which were decorated with painted murals between about 1590 and 1609.

Further changes came in the 1650s, when the church was widened to the south to create a two-aisled interior, and a burial chapel was added against the south-east wall. The present sacristy, on the north-east side, dates from 1672, and a freestanding wooden bell tower was erected in 1700.

Among the church's furnishings is a sandstone font dating from the 1100s, one of the oldest surviving features of the building. Nearby stands a medieval wooden figure of the Madonna, while to the right of the altar is a carved group showing Saint Anne with the Virgin Mary as a child, made around 1500. The carved wooden altarpiece is also Swedish work of about the same period, and the pulpit was added in 1656 during the mid-17th-century rebuilding.

The present organ, with 25 stops, was built by Åkerman & Lund and installed during renovation work between 1966 and 1968; its case and gallery front were designed by the architect Rolf Bergh.
