About forty kilometres west of Skellefteå lies Rismyrliden, a homestead settlement said to be the only one of its kind preserved in the county with a complete set of original farm buildings. Established in 1825, the farm once covered some 500 hectares and remains a well-known excursion destination in Västerbotten.

Rismyrliden began life as a nybygge, a settlement carved out of the forest and wetland typical of inland Västerbotten in the early nineteenth century. The farm was worked for well over a century before being abandoned in 1967, as rural depopulation and changing agricultural patterns drew people away from such remote holdings.

Rather than falling into ruin, the buildings survived largely intact, giving Rismyrliden its distinction as a rare example of a complete historic farmstead from this period. Since 1985 the site has been owned and cared for by the Stiftelsen Rismyrliden foundation, with financial support from the County Administrative Board of Västerbotten.

Today the farm is kept alive in summer through the efforts of the local support association, Rismyrlidens Vänner, whose volunteers run a café and offer guided tours, alongside gardening activities, courses, talks and the keeping of farm animals. Visitors can get a sense of the rhythms of a self-sufficient inland farmstead, with its cluster of timber buildings reflecting the practical, close-knit architecture typical of settlements of this kind.

The site's appeal lies less in grand architecture than in its completeness and setting: a working farm frozen in the pattern of nineteenth-century rural life, surrounded by the forested landscape that shaped it.
