Årstakyrkan stands at the heart of the Årsta district in Uppsala, close to the local centre. Built in 1974 to designs by architect Samuel Fränne, the church now serves as a district church within Vaksala parish, part of the Church of Sweden.

The church was originally built for the Uppsala Mission Congregation before passing to the Church of Sweden, and it is now the third church chronologically within Vaksala parish. An ecumenical partnership is maintained here with the Swedish Salvation Army, reflecting the building's mixed congregational history.

Architecturally, the complex is a low, single-storey range built in yellow brick, while the church hall itself is constructed of rendered limestone sandstone. The worship space has an unusual five-sided plan, and its western wall can be folded open to connect directly with an adjoining parish hall, allowing the space to expand for larger gatherings.

A freestanding bell tower was added in 1989, housing a small church bell inscribed with a biblical verse about drinking freely from the water of life.

Among the church's furnishings is an oil painting by Ragnar Johansson, and the altarpiece is a woven textile designed and made by Britta Rendahl, depicting the Good Shepherd. The 1974 mechanical organ was built by the German firm Orgelbau Vleugels of Hardheim, with its exterior case designed by Samuel Fränne, giving the instrument a visual unity with the rest of the building.
