Bålsö kapell is a small, weatherboarded chapel painted red, standing on the island of Bålsön off Hornslandet near Hudiksvall. Its plain exterior conceals an interior with a distinctly eighteenth-century character, and it remains one of the region's old fishermen's chapels.

The chapel was built in 1603, making it the second oldest of the fishing chapels in this stretch of coast, reputedly raised by fishermen from Gävle, possibly together with others from Hudiksvall and elsewhere. It originally stood in a harbour that served the local fishing community, but that harbour was abandoned in the 1840s when a new one was established on the south side of the island. The chapel itself could not be relocated, so it remains at its original site, while the chapel bell was moved to a new bell frame nearer the new harbour. As a result, anyone visiting the chapel today must walk from the newer harbour, passing along the way a small burial ground that is said to still be in occasional use.

Inside, the furnishings reflect the plain devotional style of the eighteenth century, with an altar and pulpit in Rococo taste. Nine pews are said to be arranged on each side of the central aisle, and the inner walls carry painted garlands, with two angels and an all-seeing eye depicted above the door. On the north wall hangs an old painting said to show Christ on the cross.

Among the chapel's furnishings is a votive ship in the form of a full-rigged sailing vessel, inscribed with the name Gabriel Söfström and the date 1772 — a type of offering traditionally left by seafarers or their families in gratitude or hope for safe passage. The altar also bears a crucifix said to have been carved in 1944 by a local fisherman and joiner, using only a sheath knife, according to local tradition.
