Norrtälje kyrka stands at the centre of Norrtälje, in the Stockholm region of Sweden. The present stone church dates from the 1720s and replaced an earlier wooden church destroyed by fire, and it continues to serve as the parish church of Norrtälje-Malsta.

The town of Norrtälje grew from three older villages, Backa, Tälje and Näset, clustered around a fishing and trading site at the mouth of the Norrtälje river. Once the settlement gained town status it became its own parish, and a wooden church known as Mariakyrkan was built on the site now occupied by the present church, said to have been named after Queen Maria Eleonora. In August 1719, Russian forces burned down most of Norrtälje during raids along the Swedish coast, destroying the church along with much of the town's documentation.

Rebuilding was slow because of the poor state of the town's finances. The foundations of the new stone church were laid in 1724, and although money was tight, the building was considered complete enough to be consecrated around Christmas 1726. It originally had a low, unassuming tower and a porch on the south side, later removed.

The church took much of its present appearance during rebuilding work of 1772–1773, when the three-sided chancel was added, the outer walls raised, and the mansard roof constructed. The distinctive octagonal tower was rebuilt in 1854 to a design by the architect Johan Fredrik Åbom. Further restorations followed in 1899 and 1940, altering the windows, decoration and layout of the chancel, and a thorough renovation in 1968–1969 reinforced the foundations, renewed the roof structure and introduced coloured glass in the chancel windows, designed by Randi Fischer. The church was reconsecrated in 1969.

Among the furnishings, an older altarpiece by Georg Engelhard Schröder, depicting the Last Supper and inspired by a painting by Peter Paul Rubens, is said to have been a gift from Queen Ulrika Eleonora the Younger following the 1719 fire, and now hangs on the north wall. A second painting, showing the Crucifixion and likewise drawing on a Rubens composition, was reportedly donated in 1809. The stone font and its brass basin were made in the twentieth century by Hjalmar Anjou, flanked by two votive ships dating from the 1700s. Wooden figures of Saint Ansgar and Olaus Petri, carved in 1940, stand near the altar on timber salvaged from the earlier tower.

The church's organ, built by Åkerman & Lund, incorporates several stops from a nineteenth-century instrument by the same firm, reflecting the building's layered history of rebuilding and renewal over nearly three centuries.
